PLA Filament Material Guide
What is PLA material?
PLA plastic or polylactic acid is a vegetable-based plastic material, which commonly uses cornstarch or sugarcane as a raw material.
PLA is a fully biodegradable thermoplastic polymer consisting of renewable raw materials. Among all 3D printing materials, PLA is part of the most popular materials used for additive manufacturing for filament fabrication.
What is the PLA filament advantage?
*100% biodegradable, compostable,eco-friendly material
*Good mechanical and physical properties
*Good compatibility and degradability
*Good gloss and transparency
*Pla material has the high tensile strength and ductility
*It's easier for 3d printing beginners.
*With a low melting temperature and minimal warping, PLA is one of the easiest materials to 3D print successfully.
Disadvantage of PLA
Compostable but not fast enough, For industrial composters, the speed of composting is not fast enough. The residue is not compost. It will not improve soil quality. No nutrition. It changes the pH of the soil, and it makes the soil more acidic.
Low melting point, PLA has a low melting point and is not suitable for high temperature environments, nor can it be mixed with other plastics for recycling.
PLA is relatively brittle, physical performance is not strong, not durable, its low melting point also causes it to lose virtually all stiffness and strength at temperatures above 50 degrees Celsius.
In conclusion,This 3D printing PLA filament is an affordable and versatile plastic. It can easily be used for prototypes, pattern making, tooling parts, or end-use parts.
